We are seeking a welder who is responsible for the final finish of weldments and other metal products. This is accomplished by operating various hand tools to obtain desired polish and luster. The Polisher selects tools and abrasives best suited for type of weld joint and the specifications of the project. While working with the tools, the Polisher must use care to maintain contour, grain direction and dimensions of the component. Finally, the Polisher must pay close attention to any weld discontinuities (pin holes, lack of penetration) that arise from weld removal and work with Welders to repair.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The job responsibilities of this Shop Foreman position include, but are not limited to:

  • Fabrication – Work with team members in the Field or Shop to:
    • .
    • Inspection of each weld for continuity, size, appearance and penetration.
    • Passivation or pickling of completed fabrication to ensure corrosion resistance.
  • Validation – Review completed designs and fabrications for accuracy of fit, finish and function with Project Manager and/or Quality Manager; participate in project team meetings.
  • Organization – Adhere to Sterling procedures for management of expense & time reporting, and maintain orderly work area/job box, material & tool staging, and drawings to aid collaboration with co-workers.
  • Expectations – Operate within company and customer expectations for quality, standards adherence and safety considerations for all designs.
  • Performance – Accountable to customer and Management for all aspects of project performance, satisfying expectations, timeliness and quality of deliverables.
  • Feedback – Meet with Project Team to regularly to review challenges, solutions, measurables and successes.  
  • Improvements – Make recommendations for improvements in efficiency, processes, equipment and techniques and provide justification to management to support such ideas. Accept constructive criticism and coaching from manger and team members to improve personal skills. 
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work weekend and holidays as needed.
  • Driver’s license with clean driving record and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to work in environments with harsh physical conditions and exposure (temperature, dust, chemicals, noise)
  • Must be able to physically stand most of the day finishing product

Preferred

  • Must have good vision.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to tolerate repetitive work.
  • Basic math skills, particularly working with fractions.
  • Mechanical ability.
  • Willingness to accept ownership of complex tasks and see them through to successful completion.
  • Must be able to work as a positive team member, with professional attitude and respect. 
  • Must be able to work in a multi-task environment with unexpected interruptions and schedule changes.
  • Creative problem solving ability.
  • Self-starter with limited supervision required.

Desired

  • Blue print reading
  • Familiarity with TIG/GTAW welding
  • Working with powered hand tools (grinders, saw, cut off wheels, sanders)
  • Polishing of stainless steel to 3A sanitary finish.
  • Equipment operation (forklifts, overhead cranes, etc.)
  • Safety & CPR Certification.

  • Ability to travel (by car and airplane)
  • Clean driving record
  • Pass background check
  • Ability to work weekend shifts
  • Ability to start shift at 5am when overtime is required

Salary: $22 - $26 per hour
